In March 2014, I assisted in refactoring and restyling the navigation for a long-running replatforming of CNN.com. In June 2014, I was asked to contribute full-time to the project, beginning with a redesign of the navigation.
After wrapping up the navigation, I assisted on efforts across the site, consulting with the design group on new components and features, project management on existing features and revamps, and product management on outstanding technical and functional issues.
I assisted on a large story carousel implementation for the homepage and section fronts. Beginning with sketches and html prototypes, I assisted in setting design direction for this feature. After its initial implementation, I shifted to a production role- restyling the component and reworking some of the interaction code.
For a programmable video carousel, I spent a half hour making initial code sketches communicating motion design and intended interactions. These small, low-cost deliverables assisted communication between product, design, and development. Screen caps and links to the code sketches below.
As launch neared, I assisted in cleaning up spacing and padding on numerous pages and components- including article pages, anchor profile pages (below), and the homepage/section fronts. With the goal of site-wide visual consistency, I worked with designers to target layouts across the site and make meaningful changes quickly.
